Meet Hallock “Bud” Luce III
Bud Luce has had a long and distinguished career in the insurance business.
In 1947, he joined agency founder Edmund Lupton as a sales and service representative. Bud’s ability to attract new clients was clear at the outset.
As he says with a smile, “I literally had a ‘natural market’. My father was a general practitioner who treated patients and delivered babies for hundreds of families in the Riverhead area. He knew just about everyone, and just about everyone knew him and his family.”
Bud quickly developed a network of satisfied clients who, in turn, referred him to their friends, relatives and business associates. His activities at church, in the Rotary Club (since 1947), and the local fire department added to his “natural market.” He helped the Lupton agency grow rapidly. In just three years, Mr. Lupton made him a partner. The Lupton agency became Lupton & Luce.
When Edmund Lupton died in 1959, Bud assumed agency management responsibilities, including recruiting. He turned his focus on building a knowledgeable and loyal employee team.
We continue to follow Bud’s lead. We are growing our business through referrals and superior customer service provided by dedicated employees. And, today, Bud Luce continues his role as a top producer and mentor in the agency.
Meet Hallock “Hal” Luce IV
In 1979, Hal Luce graduated from Ithaca College. As a student, he did a six-month internship at Utica Mutual Insurance Company, and discovered that he liked the business.
Anxious to learn all the ins and outs of the insurance business, he made a decision to start his career as a producer. He sold all lines of property and liability insurance---homeowner’s, auto and business policies.
In 1991, Hal became president and owner of Lupton & Luce. “I knew from my father’s experience and mentoring that a local independent agent’s responsibility is to match up our promises to customers with superior service. And I knew that in order to do it, you had to have a team of service-minded people who care,” he says.
With that in mind, Hal Luce has continued to build on the agency’s heritage of quality. Lupton & Luce ranks as one of the top independent agents on Long Island. The agency has 25 employees today servicing over 5,000 customers.
As an added benefit, the agency is authorized to conduct the NYS Safety Program for Defensive Driving course, and is certified to conduct the TIPs Program (Training for Intervention Procedures) for alcohol servers.
Hal Luce explains the Lupton & Luce commitment: “Our challenge every day is to make sure we meet the changing needs of our clients and do it in a way that clearly demonstrates how much we really care.”
